Hi, I’m Tess – the one behind the food prep, testing, tasting (and tasting again!), and experimenting with recipes from all corners of the culinary world. Whether it’s inspiration from websites, cookbooks, TikTok, family and friends, or even ideas that pop into my head, I’m always exploring new ways to create something delicious.
In 2017, I attended the Oregon Culinary Institute, where I fell in love with everything about cooking. Initially, I planned to focus on baking and pastry, but after tasting the dinner menu, I switched to the culinary program and pursued an associate’s degree in culinary management. Early on, I dreamed of becoming a culinary instructor. I graduated, and a few years later, stepped away from the food industry in search of a job with health benefits as I entered my late 20s.
Even now, I sometimes miss working in the kitchen — the constant aroma of onions and garlic, the sound of dishes clattering, and the familiar shout of “Behind!” as people move through tight spaces. I had incredible teachers who inspired me both as a chef and as a mentor, and some who showed me the kind of instructor I didn’t want to be. One of my most influential mentors was Chef Jane in Vermont. Working under her for two summers, I learned the true meaning of leadership and dedication. She ran a tight ship with high standards, exceptional communication, and a work ethic that left everyone else in the dust. She was always in the kitchen before 5 a.m., fueled by copious amounts of Diet Coke. Jane taught me what it truly means to be a chef and a great boss, and I’m forever grateful.
Though I didn’t become a culinary instructor in a traditional setting, my sister Amy suggested I make videos during the pandemic to share my love for food. At first, it was awkward (and honestly, I still don’t feel 100% confident some days), but I’ve rediscovered my passion for food and the joy of sharing it with others. Whether it’s a simple recipe or a new culinary experiment, I’m excited to invite you along on this journey.
For me, food preparation is always an exciting challenge. Whether it’s trying new ingredients, exploring different cuisines, or learning from others, I approach it with a student mindset because food has such a profound impact on our lives. So, here I am, a humble food blogger, hoping you’ll enjoy what I create, learn something new alongside me, and maybe even find a recipe that makes you say, “Yum!”
Cheers!
